Motorola SLR 1000: compact MOTOTRBO repeater

The Motorola SLR 1000 is a low-power MOTOTRBO repeater, IP65, and fanless operation. The VHF or UHF version is defined by the project.

Motorola SLR 1000 in MOTOTRBO coverage projects

The Motorola SLR 1000 was developed as a compact repeater to extend MOTOTRBO systems in indoor or outdoor environments compatible with its classification. Motorola publishes IP65 protection, fanless operation, and 100% duty cycle. These features facilitate different installation options, but coverage still depends on the radiating system and site study.

The equipment has 64 channels and RF output power from 1 to 10 W. There is a VHF version from 136 to 174 MHz and a UHF version from 400 to 527 MHz. The band is defined at acquisition and should not be treated as an interchangeable configuration. Authorized frequencies, existing radios, and propagation characteristics guide the choice.

Power, consumption, and connections

The official data sheet states 12 VDC power supply, with a range of 11 to 15.5 V. Published consumption is approximately 0.7 A in standby and 3 A in transmission at 10 W. Operation with AC mains requires an appropriate optional AC/DC power supply. Power supply, backup battery, cables, and surge protection need to be sized as part of the installation.

Among the published interfaces are USB type B, Ethernet, RJ45 accessory connector, and DC power input. Each port has a specific purpose. The existence of Ethernet does not mean that any IP interconnection is ready without proper configuration, licenses, and topology.

Dimensions, temperature, and protection

The SLR 1000 measures 279.4 x 228.6 x 101.6 mm and weighs 4.54 kg. The published operating temperature ranges from -30 °C to +60 °C. The IP65 rating indicates enclosure protection under the manufacturer’s test conditions. Connectors, power supply, antenna, and other parts of the installation need compatible protection to preserve the whole.

The absence of a fan reduces a mechanical element, but does not eliminate the need for proper heat dissipation and mounting. The installer must respect space, orientation, and thermal limits. The evaluation also considers grounding, lightning, technical access, and cable routing.

Digital capacity and audio

The repeater uses MOTOTRBO digital technology with AMBE+2 vocoder and can operate in architectures compatible with its documentation and licensing. The capacity for simultaneous calls, interconnections, and system features depends on the configured solution. It is not correct to attribute network features to the equipment that are not licensed and planned.

10 W power may suit specific scenarios, but it does not replace a well-positioned antenna. In outdoor installations, height, line of sight, losses and interference are decisive. Inside buildings, walls, floors, elevators and metal structures affect propagation.

Components defined in the project

Antenna, duplexer, cables, AC/DC power supply and electrical protection remain relevant, but are components sized for each project.

Programming and technical service

ABC Mais Telecom can assess coverage, band, existing terminals, power, and installation site conditions. Programming needs to be coordinated with all radios in the system. For maintenance, power, connectors, power output, reception, alarms, firmware, and configuration are evaluated. The quote is prepared after the technical scenario is clear.

Technical checklist for specifying the SLR1000

The specification of the SLR1000 begins with identifying the exact version. The page does not combine features from different versions. The published capacity is 64 channels and RF output is 1 to 10 W. The project needs to relate these data to the authorized band, the number of groups, and the radios already in operation.

1. Confirm band and version before programming

For the SLR1000, the VHF 136 to 174 MHz or UHF 400 to 527 MHz must be confirmed. The frequency is not chosen solely by user preference. It must comply with regulations, licensing when applicable, and compatibility with portables, mobiles, antenna, and duplexer. The complete unit code helps avoid configuration based on a different variant.

2. Measure the installation site

The SLR1000 location must be inspected before assembly. Available height, cable routing, grounding, ventilation, maintenance access, and distance to the antenna influence the result. The equipment measures 279.4 x 228.6 x 101.6 mm and 4.54 kg. These measurements help check rack, wall, cabinet, and service space without improvisation.

3. Size antenna and duplexer

Antenna and duplexer are not universal accessories for the SLR1000. The band, transmit/receive separation, power, and losses must be compatible. The duplexer adjustment must be measured with appropriate instruments. A visually similar part may operate in another band and impair coverage, reception, or transmitter protection.

4. Calculate transmission line losses

Cable length and type, connectors, splices, and surge protection alter the power reaching the antenna. The published output of 1 to 10 W does not automatically equal radiated power. For the SLR1000, the project records these losses and checks the standing wave ratio before concluding that a coverage difficulty comes from the repeater.

5. Prepare power and contingency

The official power supply for the SLR1000 is 12 VDC, with a range of 11 to 15.5 V. Power supply, circuit breakers, cables, and possible backup battery must be sized for actual consumption and desired autonomy time. The existence of an electrical input does not prove that any power supply works. Polarity, voltage, current, and protection must be verified.

6. Plan programming and groups

The SLR1000 programming must be consistent with all radios in the system. Frequencies, channel bandwidth, color code, groups, lists, and analog or digital parameters are documented before changes. A validated backup reduces the risk of configuration loss. Changes are tested in a controlled manner because a repeater affects many users at once.

7. Validate network features

For the SLR1000, consider the Ethernet, USB Type-B and accessory RJ45 interfaces according to the official data sheet. An Ethernet connector or a mention of IP does not guarantee ready-to-use interconnection. The version, licenses, topology, addressing, security and network availability must be confirmed. Conventional communication must also remain documented for diagnosis.

8. Perform commissioning with measurements

After installation, the SLR1000 undergoes verification of power, frequency, modulation, reception, alarms, and operation with real terminals. The radiating system is also measured. Voice tests are performed at representative points in the environment. The report should separate measured facts from estimates, avoiding turning a test condition into a general range promise.

9. Document preventive maintenance

The SLR1000 routine may include inspection of power supply, ventilation, connectors, grounding, cables, alarms, and programming parameters. Failure history and infrastructure changes help find root cause. When coverage changes, the investigation considers antenna and transmission line before concluding that the RF module needs replacement.

10. Respect the model’s life cycle

Version and availability remain subject to inquiry.

11. Separate proven components from generic items

Infrastructure components remain within the technical scope, but are specified by band, power and installation, not by appearance or image reuse.

12. Information for a responsible quote

To evaluate the SLR1000, send city, band, frequencies, number of users, existing radios, area, obstacles, installation site, and network needs. Infrastructure photos and programming backups also help. ABC Mais Telecom uses this data to guide study, implementation, programming, and technical service without forcing a solution before diagnosis.

SLR1000 identification check

SLR1000 is the compact spelling of the Motorola SLR 1000 model. When requesting SLR1000 support, record the unit’s full code and frequency band. This avoids confusing SLR1000 with another MOTOTRBO repeater of a different power or form factor.

The VHF or UHF version of the SLR1000 must be confirmed before programming. The 64 channels of the SLR1000 organize compatible configurations. The RF output of the SLR1000 is adjusted from 1 to 10 W according to the project and installation conditions.

In the SLR1000 installation, power supply, antenna, duplexer, cables, and electrical protection are sized together. If the SLR1000 shows coverage loss, these components are measured along with the repeater. The IP65 rating of the SLR1000 does not automatically transfer protection to connectors and power supply.

A backup of the SLR1000 should accompany the inventory of frequencies and groups. During maintenance, the SLR1000 is tested with compatible terminals. A responsible quote for the SLR1000 considers band, infrastructure, number of users, and area before indicating components.

The technical record of the SLR1000 should also identify firmware, serial number, date of last backup, and commissioning measurement results.

Applications and criteria of the Motorola SLR 1000

The SLR 1000 can be considered in points that require a compact repeater of up to 10 W, provided that the band and installation are evaluated.

Internal and external coverage

IP65 protection allows evaluating compatible installations in indoor or outdoor environments. The cabinet does not automatically make cables, power supply and connectors protected; the set needs to be designed.

Shadow areas

Buildings, yards, industrial plants and remote locations may present shadow areas. The technical survey verifies whether repetition is the appropriate answer and where to position the antenna.

Version and power

The choice between VHF and UHF follows the authorization and the terminals. The power from 1 to 10 W must be programmed according to the project, without promising fixed distance.
