Two-way radios for industry

At a factory, delayed information is not an inconvenience: it is a stopped line. The operator seeing a conveyor jam, the mechanic needing the right wrench and the forklift driver waiting for dock clearance all need to talk to decision-makers immediately, with hands occupied and noise all around.

Why mobile phones do not solve factory-floor communication

Three reasons, none a matter of preference.

Metal structures absorb signal. Steel-roofed and steel-framed warehouses, mezzanines, freight lift shafts and basements are exactly where carrier networks fail. Radio does not depend on them: devices communicate directly, and where a building is too large, a repeater extends coverage throughout the space.

Nobody dials with gloves on. One button, one hand, no screen, no searching for a contact. With PPE, gloves and hearing protection, every extra gesture is one that does not happen.

One speaks, everyone hears. A line-stoppage, leak or emergency notice must reach the whole group simultaneously, not one person who then passes it on.

Who talks to whom in a factory

Production calls maintenance when a machine stops. Maintenance calls stores for a part. Dispatch calls the gatehouse to release a truck. Quality calls production to hold a batch. Occupational safety needs a channel that interrupts all the others in an accident.

Each conversation is a channel. Digital radio separates areas while retaining a general emergency channel for the notice nobody can miss.

What usually matters when choosing

Noise. The number-one factor. A powerful speaker and noise suppression determine whether the message gets through or becomes "what?".

Ruggedness. Factory radios fall and encounter dust and splashes. IP protection and drop testing (MIL-STD-810) are not luxuries; they determine service life.

Battery life for the whole shift. An 8 h shift with overtime needs a battery covering the day without a mid-shift change.

Hazardous area. Where gas, vapor or combustible dust is present, only a radio that is intrinsically safe, certified for explosive atmospheres, may enter. An ordinary radio there is a risk, not a saving.

Machine and alarm integration. Those with existing alarm or telemetry systems can integrate radio into automatic notifications. Describe the scenario in the quote request.

Rent or buy?

Purchasing is industry's choice: daily, permanent use, with equipment becoming an operational asset and service following its useful life.

Rental covers temporary needs: scheduled shutdown, new-line assembly, renovation or intensive inventory work. ABC offers rental of models DEP250 and BP516.

How to assess industrial two-way radios with official manufacturers

Industrial two-way radio selection must consider the scenario, coverage and actually documented features. ABC Mais Telecom works with official Motorola Solutions and Hytera portfolios to size industrial radio solutions without trading technical accuracy for generic promises.

Frequently asked questions

Can an ordinary radio be used where there is explosion risk?

No. In an atmosphere with gas, vapor or combustible dust, equipment must be intrinsically safe, certified for that condition. This applies to the DGP8550EX and PD796Ex.

Does the radio work inside a metal-framed warehouse?

Yes, and this is precisely where it stands out against mobile phones. In very extensive areas with mezzanines or basements, a repeater extends coverage throughout the space.

Can production, maintenance and dispatch be separated?

Yes. Each area has a channel, with a general channel reserved for emergencies.

Does the audio overcome factory noise?

Suggested models have powerful speakers and noise suppression. For very noisy environments, headsets with hearing protection and boom microphones are also available.

Is an Anatel license required?

The equipment needs to be approved by Anatel: all equipment ABC sells is. Station licensing depends on band and operational scale; describe the scenario in the quote request.
