Motorola MOTOTRBO R7Ex Radio
DMR communication for potentially explosive environments. The R7Ex combines IIA and IIC versions, audio with noise suppression and a set of radio, battery and accessories that must meet the area classification.
Motorola declares ATEX, IECEx and INMETRO for the family. Selection depends on the variant, applicable certificate and environment. The R7Ex is not simply an R7 with a rugged case.

Meet the Motorola R7Ex
The decision starts with the risk of the environment. Gas group, temperature, radio variant and certified accessories must be compatible. The R7Ex adds digital communication and features such as man down, lone worker and emergency button to the planning. They do not replace the company’s safety procedures.

Certification of the set
Radio, battery and accessory
Use the safety manual and the variant's certificate. An ordinary headset or a similar battery can invalidate the safe condition of the set. The list on this page uses official R7Ex references.
FKP and NKP
Different features by version
FKP has a keypad and a 43.2 mm diagonal display, with 1,000 channels. NKP has no display and has 64 channels. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are listed in the spec sheet for FKP, not for the whole family indiscriminately.
Why choose Motorola R7Ex?
The decision starts with the risk of the environment. Gas group, temperature, radio variant and certified accessories must be compatible. The R7Ex adds digital communication and features such as man down, lone worker and emergency button to the planning. They do not replace the company’s safety procedures.
IIA is not IIC
The LACR sheet states 350 to 470 MHz and up to 4 W for IIA. For IIC, it states 400 to 470 MHz and up to 2 W. They are physical and certified variants, not options to switch for convenience. Programming and operation must respect the unit and network authorization.
Autonomy without mixing tests
With PMNN4848 of 2,150 mAh, the digital reference is 19 hours for IIA and 23.5 hours for IIC. The test uses a 5/5/90 cycle at maximum power, with GNSS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off. Active location and more transmission change the result.
Audio and network evolution
The family combines AI-trained noise suppression, Intelligent Audio and IMPRES. The documentation lists conventional, IP Site Connect, Capacity Plus and Capacity Max. Deployment depends on compatible licenses, infrastructure and programming. Intrinsically safe accessories must follow the manual, not just a commercial list.

Compatible accessories with R7Ex
References related by the manufacturer for this model. The indication of standard or optional appears only when the source makes this distinction. Check the details of each part.
NS750Ex: remote speaker microphone
The NS750Ex IMPRES offers large front PTT and side PTT, volume control and AI-trained noise suppression on the R7Ex. The body measures 104 × 68 × 32 mm without clip and has IP66/IP67 protection. Code PMMN4163.
RM750Ex: compact remote speaker microphone
The RM750Ex is the 82 × 60 × 26 mm IMPRES remote speaker microphone, without clip, for the R7Ex. It offers intelligent audio, volume control and AI-trained noise suppression, with IP66/IP68 protection. Code PMMN4164.
HS700Ex (over-the-head headset)
: PMLN8628
Equipment: Motorola MOTOTRBO R7Ex Two-Way Radio
The HS700Ex over-the-head headset features two ear muffs and a boom microphone with noise cancellation. The R7Ex data sheet indicates NRR of 26 dB, SNR of 33 dB, and IP65/IP67 protection for this configuration.
The Nexus connection requires the NS750Ex remote speaker microphone PMMN4163 or the AD700Ex PTT adapter PMLN8634. It does not connect directly to the radio and does not use the RM750Ex PMMN4164 as a substitute for this path; consult the safety manual for the approved Ex combination.
- Connector:
- Nexus
- Protection:
- IP65/IP67
- Attenuation: NRR
- 26 dB / SNR 33 dB
AD700Ex: PTT adapter
: PMLN8634
Equipment: Motorola MOTOTRBO R7Ex Two-Way Radio
The AD700Ex provides the PTT activation interface between the R7Ex and the Nexus headsets listed in the catalog, including HS700Ex and HS750Ex. The part has IP65/IP67 protection and ATEX/IECEx classification in the authorized set.
It is an adapter and does not replace the headset or its acoustic functions. Check the radio, battery and headset part numbers in the safety manual; connecting ordinary equipment to the same interface does not make it suitable for a hazardous area.
- Protection:
- IP65/IP67
- Approval: ATEX/IECEx
- Function:
- PTT interface for headset
See the official accessories list. Confirm reference and variant before choosing.

Questions about Motorola R7Ex
Can I use accessories from the regular R7?
Do not assume compatibility. The R7Ex requires the set approved in the safety manual and certificate.
Which version suits my area?
It depends on the classification of gases, dusts and temperatures. The safety team must validate variant and certificate.
Does every R7Ex have display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
No. The data sheet distinguishes FKP and NKP; these features are linked to FKP models.
Does it integrate MOTOTRBO systems?
The documentation lists conventional, IP Site Connect, Capacity Plus and Capacity Max, subject to project configuration.
